The open painting studio is an ideal format for self-directed painters of all levels, seeking both technical instruction and creative direction to take their work to a higher level.
Whether drawing or painting in any genre (landscape, figure, still life, abstract), this is an opportunity for you to learn how to translate ideas into finished works, and develop these into more expansive projects, within a community-based environment.
Come and enjoy a space of your own including an easel, side table, glass palette and other amenities. In-class resources also include plaster casts, still life objects, photographs of human figures, and master copies.
In this open studio, you can explore a variety of topics, including:
- Sighting & measurement techniques
- Shading techniques
- Creative mark making
- Idea generation
- Underpainting in grisaille & imprimatura
- Alla prima (wet-into-wet) & indirect painting (wet-over-dry)
- Colour theory
