Are you ready to loosen up and get more creative with your figure drawings? This exciting course brings an outside-the-box approach into figure drawing, as you experiment with mark making techniques using various drawing media.

In working from the live model, exercises are designed to stimulate your imagination and yield surprising results. The instructor will guide you along step-by-step, showing you how to integrate techniques with coloured pastel (skin tones & abstract backgrounds), charcoal (expressive line & shading), and ink (calligraphic brushwork), all in one drawing!

Attendees of this course will experience a sense of play, discovery, and creative flow in their work.

Is it time to bring more depth, nuance, and precision into your portraits? Whether a drawer or painter, this course is essential for the portrait artist. Each class begins with a brief anatomy lecture, followed by drawing from the live model.

Using basic drawing media in short and long poses, you will examine the head & facial features from various angles, learning how to draw them into simplified geometrical shapes & planes. Emphasis will be placed upon solidifying structure and proportion, achieving a likeness, and utilizing shading techniques to create convincing, 3-dimensional drawings.

Attendees of this course will be able to draw the head from their imagination with ease, and enjoy greater realism in their portraiture!

In this weekend workshop, you will learn how to paint realistic clothed figures in space. Emphasis will be placed upon the interaction of fabric and figure, how to depict the ‘anatomy’ of folds using various fabrics (e.g. velvet, denim, silk, etc.), as they interact with human form, and capturing a sense of space which the figure inhabits.

In working from both the live model and reference materials, you will utilize the alla prima approach, starting with a detailed underpainting, followed by a unique ‘tiling’ technique to achieve a complex and nuanced figure painting.
